My Chat With Joe Paterno

I had the chance many years ago to chat with Joe Paterno in Florida while he was on a recruiting trip. After professing my respect for him & my loyal devotion to Syracuse, he wrote me this memorable love prose...

545 vs. 300,000,000 People

545 vs. 300,000,000 People
 -By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes? You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank. I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? John Boehner. He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to. It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ... If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way. There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses. Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

How To Keep Young People From Becoming Socialists

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked; and that no one would be poor, and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”. All grades will be averaged, and everyone will receive the same grade; so, no one will fail, and no one will receive an A (substituting grades for dollars — something closer to home, and more readily understood by all).
After the first test, the grades were averaged; and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset, and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less; and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride, too, so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame, and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings; and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
To their great surprise, ALL FAILED! The professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Couldn’t be any simpler.

These should be memorized by every young person:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Mannequin Holds Deputies in Sunday Standoff

Mannequin Holds Deputies in Sunday Standoff

CLARK COUNTY, Ohio —
Deputies in Clark County are investigating after someone placed a mannequin on the front porch of a house armed with a rifle.
On Sunday night, dispatchers received a 911 call from a resident at 5300 West National Road and reported that there was an unknown person on their front porch armed with a rifle.
The caller said that prior to the individual being on the front porch, the residents heard what they believed was a prowler outside the residence.
The residents of the house took safety in the basement. Deputies arrived and found a white man dressed in jean overalls and a red and grey sweatshirt sitting on the front porch with a long gun in his lap.
Deputies said they tried to give the person verbal commands, but got no response. Deputies were able to approach the subject from behind and discovered that the individual was a mannequin and that the firearm it was holding was a toy shotgun.
Detectives found that a relative of the victim, Tammy Moore, placed the mannequin on the porch as a practical joke. She was interviewed and stated that she and the homeowner regularly play practical jokes on one another.
Moore was charged with one count of inducing panic and ordered to appear in court.

Tebow's Tale is Not About Football

So... The legend grows from the heroics of a young warrior, fighting against his worthy football foes, & a vast array of vicious critics. If this was only about the game of football, we wouldn't be talking about this faith filled phenom. But the strong religious framework that binds this story line is compelling.

Religion seems to bring out the best, and worst, in all humanity. As a result, the battle lines between Tebowers & Tebooers are very clearly drawn & firmly entrenched. One side clings to their strong faith & values, while the other camp holds to their disdain for anything of spiritual value.

These divided factions have used Tim Tebow as their own personal chess piece, a pawn to advance their lofty agendas, while the young man himself has downplayed his own importance in this holy war.

The Tebow faithful draw inspiration & courage from a God fearing man who faces adversity with honor & humility. They believe his actions lend credence to the power & love of almighty God. His adoring supporters will assert Tim's ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles as divine intervention.

The anti-Tebow crowd will point to his weaknesses & failures at his position on the team, and downplay any victories, saying the defense won the game, or the opponent was not very good. I wonder how many people would allow someone else to destroy their ambitions with a fact sheet on all their shortcomings? We all aspire to greater things, and work to improve our weak spots. In this situation, those who oppose the anointed Bronco are blind to the dynamic nature of God's greatest creation. People do often get better at things in our lives, whether through diligent desire or pragmatic necessity.

If this is true, why do Tim's enemies insist upon creating a one dimensional character who is incapable of our most predominant trait? These people are not only challenging Tim Tebow, but also the very core of humanity, daring us to prove them wrong. The irony of this staunch opposition is amusing, because the only apparent weakness rests within the fundamentally flawed argument of these naysayers.

For a few weeks, it appeared as though the Tebow haters were right, as the Broncos bent & broke against their last 3 opponents. Tim's offense had no magic in these final affairs, so the haughty pundits came out of the woodwork to hammer one final nail into his coffin.

The Tebow faithful suffered three weeks without their savior, & the prospects of redemption looked bleak. They stood against the defending AFC Champions, & it seemed like the whole world was against them.

This reminds me of another dark tale with an infinitely more daunting challenge. In this story, some other faithful souls awaited sweet glory for three days, while facing the ridicule of their doubters & menacing cloak of a powerful empire. The end of that story was a testament to perseverance & belief against all odds, & this modern day drama is no different.

We see the beauty of diamonds, while forgetting the great pressure it takes to make such a wonderful creation. In life, we must endure resistance & forces that will seemingly crush us, in order to transform into a beautiful thing. The legend of Tim Tebow is the same, & serves as a grand reminder of our own mission in this world.

Still, we still suffer from the slings & arrows of those detractors who cannot accept the full force of this narrative, & they refuse to acknowledge the obvious divinely inspired metaphors contained therein. Many will say God doesn't care about football, so why should we?

Unfortunately, they don't understand the truth of God's methods for reaching humanity. Often, we ask for signs to show us that our creator is real, & he cares about us. This entire saga is full of God's hints, if we will open our eyes to it. Throughout history, other great heroes have faced challenges for the glory of God, & beat the odds to prove their faith. Interestingly enough, numbers seem to play a big role in revealing the divine nature of great events.

Did you know Tim Tebow passed for 316 yards in this epic playoff battle?

If you understand this number, you know what God thinks...

Iran to Launch Nuclear Work in Bunker in 'Near Future' TEHRAN — Iran Will Start Enriching Uranium

TEHRAN — Iran will start enriching uranium in the "near future" deep inside a mountain, a senior official said, a move likely to further antagonize Western powers thatsuspect Tehran is seeking nuclear weapons capability.

The Islamic Republic's decision to conduct sensitive atomic activities at an underground site that better protection against any enemy attacks could complicate diplomatic efforts to resolve the long-running row peacefully.

Iran has said for months that it is preparing to move its highest-grade uranium refinement work to Fordow, a facility near the Shi'ite Muslim holy city of Qom in central Iran, from its main enrichment plant at Natanz.

The United States and its allies say Iran is trying to build bombs, but Tehran insists its nuclear program is aimed at generating power and for medical purposes.

"The Fordow nuclear enrichment plant will be operational in the near future," the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani, said.

Uranium refined to purity levels of both 3.5 percent and 20 percent can be produced at the site, he added in comments carried by Iran's Kayhan newspaper on Sunday. One Western official said Iran's start-up of Fordow sends a political signal to show it will not bow to international demands to suspend uranium enrichment, activity which can have both civilian and military uses.

The West has imposed increasingly tight economic sanctions on Tehran over its nuclear program, culminating with a new law that President Barack Obama signed on New Year's Eve aimed at preventing buyers from paying for Iranian oil. "I would see it as another escalatory step on the Iranian side," said the official, who declined to be named.

As the sanctions pressure mounts on the major oil producer, Iran has called for fresh talks on its nuclear programme with the permanent members of the Security Council and Germany (P5+1), which have been stalled for a year.

Western powers repeatedly have made clear they are also ready for renewed diplomacy, but they stress that Iran must show it is willing to engage in meaningful discussions and start addressing growing international concerns about its work.

"They have to demonstrate they are going to be serious," the Western official said, speaking before Iran's latest announcement on Fordow's planned inauguration. Diplomats in Vienna, home to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the U.N. nuclear watchdog, told Reuters on Friday that Iran was believed to have begun feeding uranium gas into centrifuges in Fordow in late December as part of final preparations to use the machines for enrichment.

The centrifuges and other equipment needed to start enrichment were installed at Fordow last year. Iran already is refining uranium to a fissile purity of 20 percent — far more than the 3.5 percent level usually required to power nuclear energy plants — above ground at Natanz.

The country said last year it would move this higher-grade enrichment to Fordow, which like other Iranian nuclear sites is regularly inspected by the IAEA, and also sharply boost output capacity. The United States and Israel, Iran's arch foes, have not ruled out strikes against the Islamic state if diplomacy fails to resolve the dispute.

Iran disclosed the existence of Fordow to the IAEA only in September 2009 after learning that Western intelligence agencies had detected it. Tehran says it will use 20 percent-enriched uranium to convert into fuel for a research reactor making isotopes to treat cancer patients, but Western officials say they doubt that the country has the technical capability to do that. In addition, they say, Fordow's capacity — a maximum of 3,000 centrifuges — is too small to produce the fuel needed for nuclear power plants, but ideal for yielding smaller amounts of high-enriched product typical of a nuclear weapons programme.

Centrifuges spin at supersonic speeds, which enriches uranium by increasing the concentration of fissile isotopes. Nuclear bombs require uranium enriched to 90 percent, but Western experts say much of the effort required to get there is already achieved once it reaches 20 percent purity, shortening the time needed for any nuclear weapons "break-out."

They give different estimates of how quickly Iran could assemble a nuclear weapon if it decides to do so — ranging from as little as six months to a year or more.

Obama: "I Have An Obligation As President To Do What I Can Without Congress"

The President just violated our rights by appointing another abusive Czar without the people's approval.

Most of our founding fathers didn't want a singular leader of this nation, so the president should be more like a figure head to add a face to our collective wishes.

We did NOT wish for Czars with no accountability, so GET OUT of our house, Barack !!!

Indiana Grandmother Is Having A New Baby... With Her Grandson !!!

Sky News: Pearl Carter, 72, says she has never been happier after beginning an incestuous relationship with her 26-year-old grandchild Phil Bailey.

The pensioner, from Indiana, US, is using her pension to pay a surrogate mother so they can have a child, reports New Zealand's New Idea magazine.

She said: "I'm not interested in anyone else's opinion. I am in love with Phil and he's in love with me.

"Soon I'll be holding my son or daughter in my arms and Phil will be the proud dad."

Her lover is the son of Pearl's daughter Lynette Bailey - who she put up for adoption when she was 18-years-old.

When his mother passed away, Phil tracked down his long lost grandmother and they quickly fell in love.

Pearl told New Idea magazine: "From the first moment that I saw him, I knew we would never have a grandmother-grandson relationship.

"For the first time in years I felt sexually alive."

It was during their second week together, after dinner and wine, that Pearl made her move.

"I called Phil into my bedroom, sat him on the bed, and then I leant over and kissed him," she added.

"I expected rejection but instead he kissed me back."

Phil revealed: "I wanted to kiss her there and then. My feelings were overwhelming.

"I love Pearl with all my heart. I've always been attracted to older women and I think Pearl is gorgeous. Now I'm going to be a dad and I can't wait.

"Yes, we get laughed at and bullied when we go out and kiss in public but we don't care. You can't help who you fall for."

The pair paid $54,000 (£35,000) to find a surrogate mother and buy a donor egg to inseminate with Phil's sperm.

They placed an advert asking for an open-minded surrogate, and Roxanne Campbell applied.

"Initially I was shocked," says Roxanne, 30. "But they're a brilliant pair and I saw how much they loved each other. I know the baby will be loved too."

Pearl said: "I am finally going to be a mum and not forced to give up my child. Phil's going to be a great dad.

"I never in a million years thought at 72 I'd be 'pregnant' and in love with my grandson.

"I make no apologies and I believe God's given me a second chance."

Live blog: Romney beats Santorum in Iowa caucuses

By Catalina Camia, USA TODAY

DES MOINES -- Mitt Romney eked out an eight-vote victory over Rick Santorum in Iowa's GOP caucuses early Wednesday, after a dramatic night of see-sawing leads in the first contest of the 2012 presidential campaign.
The narrow victory by the former Massachusetts governor, making his second bid for the White House, is the closest Iowa caucus result in history. Iowa Republican Party Chairman Matt Strawn announced the results -- 30,015 votes for Romney to Santorum's 30,007 -- hours after thousands of voters met with their friends and neighbors to render judgment on the GOP field.
"Game on," declared Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator who was lagging near the bottom of the pack just a few weeks ago.
Texas Rep. Ron Paul finished third followed by former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who was bloodied by a barrage of negative ads from Paul, Romney, and an independent group allied with Romney.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a one-time presidential front-runner, finished a disappointing fifth. He went home to Austin to reassess his White House bid.
Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann came in sixth and former Utah governor Jon Huntsman, who did not actively compete in Iowa, finished last.
